It’s beginning to look like Christmas with a number of enthusiastic shopkeepers and traders already embracing the opportunity to create and decorate with some great displays popping up. Entries close on Thursday 30th November for the Dungog District Chamber of Commerce Business Christmas Decoration Competition and you must enter to be eligible for prizes. All prizes can only be spent in participating businesses.
In its fifth year, we have already received a record number of entries so the competition will be tough. Voting boxed will be distributed shortly to those businesses who have registered so keep your eye out, vote for your favourite for a chance to win $100.00 to spend in any participating business. The Chamber is pleased to have been invited to take part in two critical consultations in the coming week, along with Dungog Regional Tourism, and to have the opportunity to lobby for the best outcome for Dungog Shire.
As mentioned previously, the NSW Government, in collaboration with local councils, is working to develop Regional Economic Development Strategies (REDS) for regions in NSW and the consultation for the Hunter Region will take place this Thursday, 30 November in the Upper Hunter and Friday, 1 December in the Lower Hunter. The REDS will inform regional development policy and identify actions to support economic growth in our region.
And thank you to those local people who took time to complete the recent survey that was developed to inform the REDS.
Also, Destination Sydney Surrounds North is currently undertaking the development of the region’s Destination Management Plan (DMP) which aims to increase visitation to the region. As part of the process, the Chamber and DRT have been identified as key stakeholders for the Hunter Valley and Upper Hunter and will be attending a session held on Monday, 4 December at Pokolbin.
Thanks to Ivan Skaines, Council’s Economic Development, Tourism and Events Co-ordinator, who always makes sure Dungog District Chamber of Commerce, and other relevant stakeholders, are consulted via these processes.
Finally a reminder that the Annual General Meeting of Dungog Regional Tourism Inc. will be held at 6.30 pm on Thursday, 30th November 2017 at the Settlers Arms, corner of Brown and Lord Streets, Dungog.
Dinner will be available following the meeting for $30/person. Bookings essential. Ph 4992 1441
